Approaching Valve Time

Categories:Shadow of a Soul:Chapter I

Hello folks,

I hate to say this but I’ve decided to postpone the release of the game once again. This time until the end of 2013, most likely December, hopefully earlier. I’ve set up a page for you to request your money back in the quickest and most painless way. Here’s the link. Just enter your PayPal email address, nothing more, and I’ll refund your money. No hard feeling whatsoever.

Myriads of things big and small led to the slip in the schedule. Most of the delay stemmed from the programming/technical side of things and the countless iterations that the second trailer is going through.

The answer I gave to a previously published interview question pretty much explains how I approach the development of this game:

Not wanting to sound too dramatic, I see this game as my only chance to “make it” in life. That’s why I’m willing to sacrifice everything I have to reach the point where I say: “OK this game is good”. If it’s no good I won’t release it, and I’ll continue working on it. That’s the bottom line for me.

Believe me, with no social life and no money – plus the fact that I have to make other sacrifices to get it finished – taking a sadistic delight in delaying the release of the game is the last thing on my mind…

So what’s next?

I’ll be posting the first 30 seconds of the second trailer here in three weeks. To me, this one looks way way better than the first. Hope you folks will enjoy it too.

Then I’ll revamp the SoaS page and release screenshots and a game-play teaser a couple of weeks after that.

I’m keeping this post short because I’ll be blogging regularly (although not daily) about the development in the upcoming days.

I know the feeling of wanting to get the first thing done right. First impressions are everything these days, but don’t forget that if the first one is perfect there is hardly anything left to make the successors better.

No refund demand from me. I’ve been following you for a long time now and have seen (until you opted not to anymore) daily updates on the games progress. I’ve seen yours posts about your influences and your beliefs on the horror genre. I’m willing to wait to see the result of all that.

Also, looking at the screenshots, it looks amazing. For a one man job? I would be impressed even if a studio was working something like this up.

Just do what you need to make the game good for you. If the creator isn’t happy with it, it will reflect on to the players.

I was hoping that I could play this by the time I move to school in Florida, but I guess all those guys will hear me praising this game too! I still look very forward to this project and all the blog updates in between. Keep up the awesome work! I am with ya.

I knew it would happen. While I dont mind waiting til the end of the year. The problem is that’ll be for PC and I plan to play on PS3.. which was supposed to hit NEXT year already so if SoS is supposed to come out at the end of the year now that means the PS3 version might not come out til close to 2015. also with as long at this game is taking to come out Im starting to wish it was one big game instead of THREE games. I mean at this rate an entire Star Wars trilogy (sequels are usually 2 years apart) could come at at the same time (or faster) then all the games of this trilogy will. :(

Btw should work on a pre order option for PS3 because its getting harder and harder to hold on to that 20 in my PSN wallet thats waiting for this game when other tempting games come up and this keeps getting pushed back.. at least if this could be pre ordered on PSN then the money would be spent and then I wouldnt be able to be tempted by other things.

This message is enough for me to support you. I’ll pre order very soon. Good luck and have a nice day.

    Hi, first time post here.

I just watched your trailer and it was awesome!
I read an article that this game was supposed be release last year but I found out it not.

However, I totally agree with your thoughts, and I actually hate the game that is rushed.

    You have my support! xD
